Jerry Lee Lewis has Shingles, Postpones European Tour

Jerry Lee Lewis, the now 74 year old rock legend, has postponed a European summer tour due to an illness.  The tour's promoter expects the dates to be rescheduled for sometime this November.

"Jerry is suffering from shingles, very painful and it (also causes) problems with his heart," said a statement issued by tour promoter Diba Inernational Concerts.  According to the statement released, Jerry Lee Lewis underwent a three hour surgical procedure in Memphis last week, "and his doctors have advised him not to do the tour at this moment. They have told him that everything will be fine again in one month." Details about Lewis' surgery were not revealed.

Shingles (herpes zoster) is an infection caused by the same virus that causes Chickenpox (varicella-zoster virus). Even decades after you've recovered from chickenpox, inactive copies of the varicella-zoster virus live within your nerves. If these viruses become reactivated, then you develop shingles.

He also has an upcoming album with some help from other music superstars.  Jerry Lee Lewis will be joined by duet partners Tim McGraw, Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson on his upcoming album, Mean Old Man, due for a September 7th release on Verve/Universal Music.  Haggard contributes to "Swinging Doors" while Nelson lends his voice to "Whiskey River." Other musical guests include Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow, John Fogerty, Kid Rock and members of the Rolling Stones, among others.
