Morning, Sunshine! Feeling Blue? Why Getting More B Vitamins Can Help

Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed today? (It is Tuesday, after all, the day experts say our happiness tanks!) I had an off-day yesterday. I swear I had a dark rain cloud over my head all day long. But if you're consistently feeling down, you may consider getting more B vitamins. Experts say many of us may not be getting nearly enough, which can do terrible things to happiness ...

I read a fascinating article in the magazine Experience Life recently about B vitamins. Why do you need your B's?

*They may protect your heart.

*They may protect against cancer.

*They may help balance your mood.

But it's the last health benefit I want to address in this post. According to the article, more psychiatrists are turning to B vitamins to help patients treat depression and anxiety. B supplements, in coordination with other care, often creates a "major shift in symptoms," report experts interviewed for the article. Past studies have linked B-vitamin deficiency with psychological distress.

The article stated that most Americans are shockingly deficient in this class of vitamins--as many as 60 percent of us.

How to get more B's? You can supplement, of course, (just be sure to talk to your doc about how much), or eat more of these B-rich foods:

*Sunflower seeds

*Wheat germ (sprinkle it on your oatmeal or yogurt--I love its nutty flavor!)

*Kidney beans (make some chili tonight!)

*Peanut butter (like you needed an excuse, right?!)

*Tuna fish

Do you think you're getting enough B-vitamins?
